THIS IS ME! MY SELF- EMPOWERMENT ANTHEM!

April 11, 2018

Every now and then, you hear a song that motivates, inspires and leaves you feeling like you can do anything you put your mind to.

R. Kelly's - I am the greatest is one such song for me. The words always make me feel invincible. They make me feel like there's nothing I can't be or do. I just love it!

There have been a few others, just can't  think of any though, maybe they weren't that powerful after all 😊

However, I recently just heard another that inspired and empowered my socks off and has now become my go to song for inspiration and motivation. Love this song so much, I had to share!

Here's how I got introduced to it :

One Friday evening, Hubby and I were watching  The Graham Norton Show (a UK celebrity talk show) – a rare occasional watch for us (so I reckon this was meant to be).

I stepped out of the room just as the guest singer was about to perform. When I got back, he said with all conviction “you have to rewind that song” and I thought 'ok then, surely it can’t be that good’!

Boy was I wrong! It was exactly what I needed and has now become my go to for reminder of just how special and amazing I am – This is me by Keala Settle from the movie – The greatest Showman (which happens to be a phenomenal  movie ❤️)

Listening to the song felt like a healing process. It freed me, it uplifted me, inspired me. It's to me and many others a song that celebrates individuality. A message of being ones self, without any shame or apology.

Here's a summarised lyric. Your most welcome :) Enjoy!

I am not a stranger to the dark
"Hide away," they say
"'Cause we don't want your broken parts"
I've learned to be ashamed of all my scars
"Run away," they say
"No one'll love you as you are"

But I won't let them break me down to dust
I know that there's a place for us
For we are glorious

When the sharpest words wanna cut me down
I'm gonna send a flood, gonna drown them out
I am brave, I am bruised
I am who I'm meant to be, this is me
Look out 'cause here I come
And I'm marching on to the beat I drum
I'm not scared to be seen
I make no apologies, this is me

Another round of bullets hits my skin
Well, fire away 'cause today, I won't let the shame sink in
We are bursting through the barricades
And reaching for the sun
(We are warriors)
Yeah, that's what we've become
(Yeah, that's what we've become)

Won't let them break me down to dust
I know that there's a place for us
For we are glorious

When the sharpest words wanna cut me down
I'm gonna send a flood, gonna drown them out
I am brave, I am bruised
I am who I'm meant to be, this is me
Look out 'cause here I come
And I'm marching on to the beat I drum
I'm not scared to be seen
I make no apologies, this is me

And I know that I deserve your love
(Oh-oh-oh-oh)
There's nothing I'm not worthy of
Oh-oh-oh, oh-oh-oh, oh-oh-oh, oh, oh

One heck of a Lyric isn't it?😊

So every now and then, after taking those empowering words in, I go on to affirm the following:

They might not accept me but this is me!

I might not look the way they want me to, but this is me!

They might not approve of me but this is me!

They might not like me but this is me!

I'm here and I don't need permission to be here!

I make no apologies for who I am!

I'm deserving of love just the way I am!

While I work towards becoming my best self, this is me!

Thanks so much for reading. What's your go to song for inspiration, motivation or empowerment?

Wishing you all the love and happiness you deserve! ❤️
